🏆 We are proud to announce that Angelo Avino, PhD graduate of HydroLAB (University of Naples Federico II), has won the “Fabio Rossi” Prize in the first edition of the “Fabio Rossi – Pasquale Versace” Prize, promoted by the Gruppo Italiano di Idraulica (GII) for the best PhD theses in Hydrology and Soil Protection.
The prize was awarded to his thesis “Updating annual rainfall maxima statistics in a data-scarce region: the case study of Southern Italy”. The work addresses a central problem for hydrological risk assessment: updating the statistics of annual rainfall maxima in a region where data are scarce, such as Southern Italy.
The committee highlighted “the very high scientific profile and the excellent level of all the applications”, which makes this recognition all the more valuable.
The award was presented in Naples during the XL National Conference on Hydraulics and Hydraulic Engineering – IDRA 2026 (9–11 September 2026).
